Custom names for blocks being kept after being placed and broken

Can renamed blocks keep the names even after placing it down then breaking it? When you rename a block via anvil, place it down (on the ground, wall, ceiling, etc), then pick it up again, it goes back to its original name. Example, rename a flower pot into "cup". You place it down, you pick it up, it goes back to flower pot. I know it's just a small detail but it would be nice if it'll keep the custom name :)
