In the event that the end receives an update similar to 1.16 where a one-biome dimension gets a revamp, then I believe that a new effect caused either by the environment or a mob would be the "call of the void" (a IRL phenomenon where people think about jumping of tall ledges even when they're not suicidal) which would prevent shift-locking onto blocks, and very gently nudge players toward nearby cliffs or edges, making it extremely dangerous to bridge over gaps while having the effect. If a player died to the void while under the effect, then a special "player listened to the call of the void" death message would appear.
The worst thing in regards to heavy topics like suicide isn't to reference them in kids's games, but to trivialize them in kids's games. And I feel that the ominous, and darker toned "listened to the call of the void" is better at not trivializing suicide as "committed suicide" and "did't want to live in the same world as X". (not saying those death messages should be removed, just that that the suicide reference is not a reason to not add it)
