Currently in Java Edition, the Narrator can be set to:
- Narrates All
- Narrates Chat
- Narrates System
- Off
The total amount of narration included in Minecraft is already beyond the industry standard. There is room still for improvements and additions to the narrator, as discussed in other feedback posts. But I would like to propose highly customizable narration configurations over the existing narration, thereby allowing users to choose exactly what parts of the game they want narrated and what parts they do not.
The proposition would be to add a new possible narrator setting: "Narrates Custom".
This setting could allow users to fully control what aspects of the game they want narrated instead of having to choose only between "All", "System", or "Chat". For example, a user may wish to include all of the narration already in "Narrates Chat", but they also want to hear player achievements as well as the "<user> joined the game" and "<user> left the game" system messages.
My suggested implementation would be to have "Narrates Custom" look for a "narrator_options.txt" file, or look for narrator-specific customizations stored within the existing "options.txt" file. If nothing is found, "Narrates Custom" would be identical to "Narrates All" -- all narration is enabled by default (ensuring backwards compatibility). If configurations are found, then perhaps a config such as "narrator.player_join:false" would disable the narrator reading the "<user> joined the game" system messages.
