Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

While stone types do deserve different properties and uses, new tool types does not seem to be the best method for achieving this.
Granite could be used to create a higher temperature furnace in the event that such a thing is desired in the future.
The different stone types based on their average compositions can be used to determine where different ores are more likely to be found if in the future there are more ore types or ores become scarcer.
Different types of stone could be used for different types of arrow heads when creating arrows though this would require adding craftable fragments of the different stone types.
Different types of stone based on density and hardness could and even should effect sounds.
There are many wonderful possibilities some of which should be implemented.
