(Wording this to the best of my abilities)
Essentially, rework the existing 'empty box' of a block into a 3x3x3 sub-block, or 'block piece' to allow for a more accurate 'system' of blocks that translate from on block form to another, or from block to tool.
Let me try and explain by example: Currently if you chop a tree wood block with your hand, you get a predetermined ratio of wood blocks/sticks. Now, with the Block systems intervention, when a player uses their hands to chop a tree wood block they get a 3x3x3 (27 'pieces') ratio of block/sticks. So within the 'pieces' you could get 5 wood 'pieces', 2 stick 'pieces' and 1 "saw dust" inventory 'piece', all adding up to 27.
This would add a whole new level of complexity to Minecraft and translate into how the tools and other craft-able items are made. An Iron Axe takes 3 stick 'pieces' and 3 iron 'pieces'.
