Grimstone Slugs spawn in Deep Dark Aquifers. They work similar to bees. Their nest spawns in the same way as magma blocks and if the nest is not touching water it dries out and dies along with the slugs inside of it. The Slugs/Nests are a blueish-gray color. Instead of flowers these slugs go after glow lichen in the water nearby their nest. Once they have "eaten" (does not destroy the lichen) it heads back to its nest where it has a small chance to spawn in a glow lichen on its way back. It will also slightly glow (like the glow squid) once it ate. Once inside its nest it will use the lichen that it carried over to do one of 2 things.
1: Produce new slug. These slugs are asexual and can breed by themselves with only 1 slug needed.
2: Produce "glow". Depending on how much "glow" is inside the nest will change how bright the nest is. Light levels 1-5 with 5 being a max-filled nest. This "glow" gets added after the slug leaves the nest. A stick can be used on the nest to produce a Glow Lichen Torch that give off light level of 7 when placed.
If a slug can't get back into its nest because it is now full the slug will "scan" the area for other nests. If fewer than 2 full nests are found in the area, it will dig into the ground and produce a new Grimstone Slug Nest. If 3 full nests are found in the area it will not create a new nest but will continue to hang out in the area of the other nests.
This lets players craft minimal light sources in the Deep Dark
They also dont like sound!
