Soot / Ash

I think we all know that there should be ash added to Minecraft. We have lava, magma, basalt and all of these blocks and yet we have no block for the step between. If there is volcanic activity there should be some ash to signify that it is indeed happening and not just... "well it's hot lava and it makes you on fire but I guess it isn't active since we don't have any of the byproducts of the formation."
