Energy Converter / Copper Tesla Coil

With the Lightning Rod added to Minecraft and no real usable applications besides its obvious lightning emigration there should be some way to use the lightning we are now able to focus and be able to contain it for use.

With that, I have come up with an idea to use an Energy Converter (block) or something of the like to have a Lightning Rod sit on top of it and feed it lightning which will then act as a Redstone Block and give a Redstone signal for that moment, but each strike of lightning gives it a certain amount of power in which it can give a Redstone signal. Without any strikes, before it runs out of power it will simply turn off and not give any signal. If then struck it will begin to charge it up again. 

However, if given continuous and numerous charges past its maximum capacity it will explode.

The crafting recipe is up to anyone's imagination.
