F3 in Java is clearly a thing the devs don't exactly like. On the other hand, it does some things that are obviously so important and critical (knowing EXACT light levels, EXACT position for farms, etc.) that for instance they felt it necessary to give Bedrock players (despite not having F3 per se) the ability to turn on coordinates. On the other hand, arguably there IS much legitimacy to the criticism of F3 "as is." The solution I propose, which should be implemented identically across platforms, parity as a side benefit of this rework, is to take the most critical pieces of information F3 would provide now, and work them into the game through new functions. For example, coordinates display automatically in HUD somewhere (and possibly allow that toggled) if and only if the player has both a map for the area/is mapping area. There should also be a way to see precisely what sort of biome you are in (again for farms mainly this is often crucial), and light level or at least 0 light (newly proposed Glare mob a great way, but if it doesn't make it in then there could be other ways to implement I'd imagine) although I'd say that last one is least important personally. Clock already does time more or less fine as is. That's about all the existing F3 functions that are ESSENTIAL in my view to maintain, for all versions--and with this change, Java could finally lose the F3 screen without it being a problem.
