One of the main reasons we needed a cave update is so we would stop strip mining and actually explore the caves. The idea was that the ore distribution would change so you could not find every ore at the same level. But in the new snapshot, every ore can be found between y0-y16. Some people might not even change how they mine. This needs to change. Here are my ideas: Emerald should only generate very high up. Y128-256. Occasionally at y128, going up to being quite common at y256. Then less common above y256. In any biome, but only in a place that is exposed to stone. Diamonds are very rare between y16 and y-64. But also between y-24 and y-64, and they’re still rare at y-64. Slightly less air exposure. Lapis can be found between y-32 to +32. Occasional at the extremes, quite common at y0. No air exposure, but much bigger blobs. Since we have so much gold in the nether, we don’t need to much in the caves. less than occasional at y24 and downwards. Gets slightly more common starting at y-24. Occasional at any level in mesas. Redstone can be found down to y-48 and up to y32. Again it is occasional at the extremes, and common at y0. Slightly less air exposure. Coal is rare at y48-256. But also at y72-256, being very common at y256. Less common above y256. Copper is found at y32-128. Most common at y64. Also rare at y96-192. Much larger blobs. But last weeks changes can be removed. Iron is rare between y-32 and y0. But a bit more at y48-72. Also at y96 and above, common at y256.
