Some people consider using F3 in Survival as cheating. I am not hard-lined on that topic, but if I could avoid using Debug menus in Survival gameplay I would happily do that.
This brings us to the situation where we need to find a particular mob, spawning only in few select Biomes. Currently the only way of telling if we are in the right biome is to press F3 and find the "Current Biome:" line.
It would be much more immersive if a Biome Indicator item existed. This item if held in hand or offhand would show text with the name of the current Biome. This item could be for example connected to a new Villager Naturalist Workstation, and would only be craftable there. A Naturalist Villager would employ themselves with examination of natural world. They could tend to Flower/small plant/herb gardens behind their homes. They could trade Potions, Cauldrons, Flowers and Dyes, on higher Trade Levels also Amethyst Geode Maps, Biome Indicators, and possibly Compasses.
The Naturalist Workstation would enable us to craft Biome Indicator item (recipe could include certain Tree Sapling, certain Wood type Slab, a Fern, and Redstone), increase yield of crafting Dyes and Sugar, and could also allow Players to craft Botanical Diary Book, and possibly have other uses.
Botanical Diary Book combined with consecutive Saplings, Flowers, and Plants would add entries until it turned into Master Botanical Diary when complete. For that an achievement could be awarded.
