We can already craft Ancient Debris with Gold to create Netherite. But wouldn't it be cool to be able to craft it with Iron or Copper to create variations of Netherite? The different alloys could give upgraded armour and tools different attributes. Maybe when you upgrade your diamond armour with Gold-Netherite you take reduced knockback, but if you use Iron-Netherite you get more armour protection, and Copper-Netherite could be higher movement speed. Or maybe Iron-Netherite could have higher protection against Axes but Gold-Netherite could have higher protection against Swords, and Copper could have higher protection against arrows . Or maybe even different alloys have different possible enchantments (or some other set of attributes for all the different alloys). That way players can specialize and customize their equipment. It adds new tools/weapons and uses for metals without changing the current tier-progression. It adds complexity to PvP without drastically changing dynamics. And it opens the door for more possible rare end-game metals that can create different alloys with Netherite. All of this would greatly increase the diversity of end-game gameplay as there would be no "best" equipment.
Also I think it would be cool if you could upgrade tridents and shields in the smithing table. Maybe Copper-Netherite could be used to upgrade the Trident and Iron-Netherite could be used to upgrade the shield.
