I completely agree. I completely hate the direction this is going, and feel like they are 100% focusing on cave visuals and 0% on gameplay. Deepslate also completely sucks with its toughness, and being literally the only thing down deep.

The problem is too many caves. The developers have turned the underground into swiss cheese, leaving continents looking like they are floating on air or water, propped up by narrow columns of rock. That would be ridiculous enough, but the caves make the survival game where people just like to dig for materials and build very much more difficult. All that underground negative space contains nothing but air or water, not valuable and useful minerals. This means that the survival player has to range farther and longer just to acquire a stockpile of building and crafting materials, most notably IRON. This problem is greatly exacerbated when the nearest mountain biome (with plenty of iron in it, or so we are told) is very far away. They really need to fix this. I don't begrudge the cave explorer players or the new caves but what they've done with iron ore really needs to be fixed. Not everyone wants to play this game the same way, and that used to be a strength of Minecraft that it accomodated so many different styles of game play. Mojang are in danger of breaking that and they ought to fix it, if they want to keep the audience they have.
