Villagers are mainly used for trading and whimsical experiments of sorts. But what about having a new type of villager* that helps the player in their adventures?
Cue the Heallager (yes, I know, it's not the best name). The Heallager is a rare separate mob from the villagers, albeit quite similar to them. He lives in a small wooden cabin (it may be out of different types of wood depending on the biome) with a brewing stand and a campfire near it.
Heallagers look like pre-1.14 villagers, but with a blue or light purple coat. If you buy at least 3 potions from a Heallager, he will follow you wherever you go excluding the End, oceans (if not by boat), and lava lakes.
If you, however, get too far (at least 64 blocks) from a Heallager, he will stop following you.
Heallagers throw blast potions of regeneration / instant health at you when you are at 3 hearts or less. They may also throw water breathing potions when you are drowning and fire res potions when you are burning.
One more thing: if monsters are attacking you, a Heallager will murmur a curse that makes all monsters in a 24-block radius glow and be poisoned for 15 seconds. At light levels below 8, they turn invisible.
For some of you, Heallagers will seem pretty OP. Here is a solution: make them super duper rare. Only 60 of them or smth per world. And please remove the wandering traders, Mojang!
*It's not a new type of villagers, but rather a separate mob that shares some similarities with a villager
