Graupel is a new snowy block that generate in the Snow-Capped Peaks. It clumps together to form Graupel Clusters. Graupel can be used for several things.
Cane Harness - When placing a wooden cane on graupel, and applying a lead on the cane, you can use that as a harness to explore smaller distances on a mountain layer.
Ice Axe Harness - When using a mountaineer pick (or ice axe) during an accretion storm (how graupel naturally falls in the Snow-Capped), the graupel holds the axe in place, and similar to the mountaineer, you don't get blown by the winds.
Snowy Beacon - A new mob known as the "Hoarfrost" (a better snow golem that lunges bottom first with icicles to prod at you, but without knockback) spawns near huge graupel clusters to protect them. When killed, they would drop an icicle, which can be placed up to 4 icicles to get an effect called, "Alpinist". This effect makes you work more diligently when collecting items for the mountains. And can do extra damage to Hoarfrosts.
Snowfall Incident - Like sand and gravel, graupel can generate, apparently defying gravity, but when mined, graupel falls down, crushing entities in the way. Graupel snowfall can be triggered much differently. When mining items above graupel, the graupel is triggered and causes an avalanche.
Dweller of the Alps - thrive in the Snow-Capped Peaks for three in-game days.
Hoarfrost Killer - Kill several Hoarfrosts with the Snow Beacon.
