An iron lead is a variation of a lead that could be crafted with a lead surrounded by 8 iron nuggets. The iron lead could serve a multitude of different purposes. Firstly, if you tie it to a mob that can have a lead attached to it, then it will act like a regular lead except it only stretches for 5 blocks, but it won't break if you try to go outside that range; it'll just stop you from going outside the range. It also won't break if hit by projectiles. You can still break it with the other ways though. Next, it could allow you to tie minecarts together, up to about 5 or 10 or somewhere in between so that multiple players can be transported. This also could work with any of the items used with the minecarts such as the Minecart with Chest or Minecart with Hopper. Lastly, it could allow the player to tie boats together like with the minecarts but with water transportation instead. It could also be able to work the announced chest boat feature as well. Also, it can be found as loot where the regular lead is found, and it has a really small chance of replacing it.
I think this would be a nice addition to Minecraft mainly because of efficiency reasons as well as it makes transportation of multiple players easier in severs without having to use commands. That, and it would be pretty cool to use linked minecarts to build something resembling a roller coaster.
