With the implementation of copper in 1.17, all ingredients to make ancient history's "Baghdad Battery" now exist. This feedback is to include a recipe for a clay battery and some conceptualizing on how it might be used with red stone. I'm suggesting a crafting recipe for a clay battery - like the shaped-crafting of iron ingots into a cauldron but with clay bricks - and some ways it may interact with copper and/or iron.
This ancient artifact was made of clay, copper, and iron and produced an electrical charge for unknown purposes. This provides some leniency in how the block could be used for red stone. However, I imagine that this object is placeable and can be filled with raw ore and/or copper/iron ingots. Perhaps the more ore added to the battery, the longer the red stone signal could reach. Perhaps the battery remains dormant until struck by lightning, when it enters a permanent "charged" state until broken with a pickaxe that doesn't have silk touch. Perhaps charged batteries could have a magnetizing effect, and draw items closer to it without the use of water streams near red stone.
Because I have limited red stone experience, and because the ancient batteries have speculative uses, I'll leave functionality concepts open. However, I do think clay batteries would fit into Minecraft if the right functionality is found, and I think it could be added in a way that reduces some of the bulk in current, optimized red stone contraptions.
