/execute between which would execute a command on each block in an area

syntax: /execute between x y z x2 y2 z2
per example /execute between ~-1 ~ ~-1 ~1 ~ ~1 run summon sheep summons 9 sheeps around the player/command block, one on each block.

    I'd suggest a "step size" values, rather than always only being full block steps

    This would be force aligned with the grid, which isn't really great, if there was an option to have it be a line from coordinate set A to set B, it could be a lot more useful.
