I was reading about the live oak and how it doesn't change color as winter comes around, and that got me thinking. What if there was a plant/tree that changed color, or closed up seasonally? As far as I know, seasons don't exist in vanilla Minecraft, so the day and night cycle would be a good mechanic to hinge on.
But anyway, what if there was a flower that opened as the sun rose, and closed as the sun set? It wouldn't function the same as the daylight sensor though as it would be probably three stages of being open (open, midway, and closed). That would be for the observer to update 3 times in redstone.
However, if not the flower, then what if a tree changed color occasionally? Maybe just the leaves? Every day it has one chance to change to another color? Like the leaves could be red one day, but then green the next? Maybe there would be a way to stop it from changing colors so the player had control over it if they didn't want it to change. I was thinking a vine maple tree would be cool, but I don't really know trees that well.
It'd be cool if the tree had its own biome and the flower would be rare and not in the flower forest or the meadow. Let me know what you think.
