Right now, the Copper, is used only for steampunk and fancy buildings, but it has potiential to work with Redstone: the Lightning Rod already emits Redstone signals when struck by a lightning.
I think that Copper can be used alongside with Redstone and Quartz. Here some ideas:
Conductive Wire: this block is crafted with 8 Copper ingots and 1 Redstone dust. It acts like a Redstone dust line, but the signal can travel underwater and upwards. However, to transfer the signal from Redstone Dust, to Conductive, we need a Transformer; also, the signal travels slower, like every block was a Repeater setted to 1 tick.
Transformer: crafted with 6 Copper ingots, 1 Redstone and 2 Nether Quartz. Can transfer the signal from Redstone to Conductive and vice versa.
Signal Sensor: made with 2 Iron ingots, 1 Copper ingot and 1 Redston Torch. Displays in numbers the Redstone signal, because many players may not know how strong the signal is. This can also be used to see the signal on the Conductive Wires.
Wired Lamp: crafted with 1 Copper Ingot and a Redstone Lamp. Acts like a regular Redstone Lamp, but it can be powered by the Conductive Wires, without using a transformer.
Hopper Pipe: crafted with 2 Copper ingots and a Hopper. Transfers items from one Hopper to another, but the starting point, must be under or beside the Hopper, and the exit must be above the Hopper.
