As of now, bats don't serve much purpose other than aesthetic for caves. However, with the new update on the way, maybe there's a way of giving more character to our flying rodent friends with the addition of Bat Colonies. These groups consist of <Insert reasonable amount of bats here> and reside within the much larger cave systems and areas. Bats will behave and act the same way when they are by themselves or within smaller groups. However if any bat from a colony is disturbed or harmed, all bat hell will break loose as the entirety of the colony swarm and attack the player or any other mobs unfortunate enough to remain in its path. This would not only bring more life to the caves but also adds another threat/challenge players will face will exploring the stoney darkness below and overall gives bats more of a part to play.
