Building a brick house or making terracotta decorations isn't an easy task in the game unless you live near a lush cave or in a swamp. There needs to be clay deposits not just on the riverbed or in swamps, but underground. It isn't regular, wet clay though, but it's dry clay and needs a pickaxe to mine. It breaks instantly and drops 3-5 dry clay powder (unaffected by fortune), which can be rehydrated to make clay balls and then be used like regular clay. A cauldron filled with 1 bottle of water can hydrate 16 dry clay powder, 32 for 2 bottles and 64 for a full one. Clay items (bricks, blocks, flower pots and other forms of pottery) needs to be dried on a drying rack for 1 in-game week before being fired to become useful items, otherwise it will crack and break into clay shards, which can be used to increase TNT damage without increasing blast power.
