Minecraft has many different types of food items for the player to consume however these food items (even the new ones) have grown stale over time (but not literally). I would think that myself and many others in the community would love to see an update to Minecraft's food and hunger systems as they are in great need of an upgrade and are currently lacking strategic depth.
Here are some reasons why and some suggestions:
Food progression in Minecraft goes something like this: It starts at porkchop and beef, and that's it. Upon spawning into the world players have easy access to what can be considered the best food in Minecraft. Porkchops and beef are very powerful food sources, which would be okay if they did not outright make other food obsolete. A possible fix could include nerfing these food items and giving other food unique properties!
For example: Glow berries can give the glowing effect for a second / Honey could take much longer to drink but gives greater hunger back / Beetroot soup gives less hunger but heals one heart.
No matter the situation porkchop and beef are eaten. When my hunger goes down even by one point and I am missing health I will immediately eat to replenish. Maybe an over eating mechanic could be introduced where eating way over what you need would give a small down side such as your player moving a little bit slower with how long this happens depending on how much they have over eaten.
I hope my suggestion can improve this already amazing game!
