I have heard that KingBDogz wants a mossy varient of every block and I think this is a great idea so I refined it a bit. I'll first talk about how it would work in game and then how this feature could be achieved.
Mossy carpets should be crafted by itself to create a moss sheet. This item is different from the other moss items to reduce accidental mossing. Just like a honey comb you can either cover or craft any block with the moss sheet to get the block's mossy varient. To get rid of the moss all you need to do is use a archeology brush on it.
Every mossy varient should be a block state of the original including existing mossy blocks. This would mean "removing" the old blocks and replacing existing ones with the block state which something similar has already been done before with powered reddstone components. Certain blocks like stones and wood could have their own special moss pattern textures while smooth textures like glass and ice or more miscellaneous blocks like dirt or respawn anchors could have a few generic moss textures that simply overlay on top of each regular texture to save on making every single block it's own mossy texture.
I think this feature is very possible with the current minecraft mechanics and would be great to see since we currently have very limited ways of showing "age" in a build besides just using mossy stone. Plus moss could be added to generated structures like on the wood in mine shafts or on fallen trees
