Change texture of block, in anvil (resource packs)

I think you should be able to name a block and it changes its texture, using a resource pack, you can do this with an item like a sword, using optfine, but you can’t with a block. I think you should be able to do this with blocks. One way you could use this is for glass. Some people want to use medieval textured glass in there buildings, but if you want to build something modern in the same world then it won’t look good. There are countless other ways you can use this. It’s nice because then you don’t have to replace an entire blocks texture.

    Given I've seen Datapacks with Resource Packs giving the same functionality I would guess it may be currently possible but would be cool if Mojang help connect people with passionate coders or ways to code learning via the community. I get tons of ideas but I have no skill myself, and very little time to learn, but would live to put my ideas out there to modders as a feedback/inspiration board for them to scroll through. It would probably fill up quickly though, lol.
