Steam Deck

Now that steam deck is coming out, java edition needs a couple of things to keep up.

  • Controller support
  • Menu navigation improvements

Controller support is important, because the steam deck controls are primarily touch and joystick based.

The UI system of Minecraft is in need of serious improvements. There's no arrow key or tab navigation in menus and modding the UI is also a compatibility nightmare with possible button overlaps.

I suggest adding some sort of layout system not based on fixed layouts (coordinate type system), and implementing focusable buttons, text fields, etc.

    Yes. Controller support would be fantastic. Dont mind if the menus are fiddely as long as it works.

    What I would like to see is Minecraft added onto the Steam Store.

    I don't care whether it is Bedrock or Java Edition. Just add it so that we can play via Steam on Steam Deck.
