The "killer bunny" was removed from spawning naturally because "They were a random death event, "... but what if they were not?. Lightning already can:
- Turn pigs into Zombie piglins
- Turn villagers into Witches
- Turns Mooshrooms into their red/brown counterpart depending on their initial color
- Charge creepers
- Has a chance to spawn Skeleton Horsemen
So why can't it turn a rabbit evil?
However, a lightning strike would instantly kill a rabbit unless the player inflicted certain potion effects on it, and maybe even giving it a golden carrot before using an enchanted trident to trigger lightning to strike. Like when spawning the Wither, it would not be a random event, but something that could only happen if the player chooses to.
It would be a nice addition since the mob is already coded into the game, and there are existing mechanics that can allow it to spawn.
