Minecraft has a lot of blocks, but what if they had more? Why do we need them? Please don't just add lists of things - these will be marked as spam and removed! Also, no furniture, guns, or vertical/"sideways"/"upright"/"standing" slabs (yes, we see you).

The item you use to activate a beacon should have an effect

You can use anything from iron to netherite to activate a beacon, but there's no difference between the items. I think that if you use something more valuable than iron, the range of the beacon should increase. If you use netherite, I even think that the strength of the effects should increase. This would make using more rare materials in beacons actually... Useful.
