Since 1.18, Bedrock lost the ability to use data driven JSON Behavior Packs to modify terrain. While Java got Density Functions, Bedrock’s terrain was hardcoded, locking creators out of custom biomes, caves, and flat worlds.
We know 3D terrain is resource heavy, but disabling this completely cripples bedrock mapmakers. Please reenable JSON custom terrain generation for add ons and use existing systems to handle hardware limits:
1. Hardware Exclusivity Already Exists The rule that all features must run on low-end mobile is outdated. Bedrock already has exclusive features like Ray Tracing (RTX) when some devices cant handle it and on pc the Bedrock Editor. Allowing capable devices to process custom terrain math fits perfectly within these exceptions.
2. Built in Compatibility Warnings Bedrock already has a system that stops low ram devices from joining heavy Marketplace maps, giving a "device not compatible" warning. If a custom terrain add on is too heavy for a phone, just display this exact warning! It is okay for massive custom worlds to be restricted to capable consoles and pcs.
3. The Pre 1.18 Precedent Before 1.18, Bedrock allowed JSON terrain editing, and cross-play worked fine so the thing here is if it needs to be only restricted to pc and maybe consoles that are capable like the maps themselves thats fine its not fair for java to do this and not us bedrock players im tryin to make a custom map and now cant do my idea bc of this limitation.
