The Farming Update is one of the most popular topics in the Minecraft community. Everyone has their own vision, but the first thing that comes to mind is: where will new seeds come from?
New plants could be added to the world, but then players with old worlds would have to travel thousands of blocks from their base to find them. However, the recent 1.21.5 "Spring to Life" update added dry grass and bush. Currently, they drop nothing at all - no seeds, no other items. Ferns can also be included here, since they currently drop wheat seeds (which is illogical).
The Main Idea
Let new crop seeds drop from these bushes. This way we:
- Use already existing blocks in the game.
- Don't force players with old worlds to travel tens of thousands of blocks in search of new plants.
Potential
The development team is clearly focused on filling the empty and monotonous world - this is evident from recent updates where they update animal textures and add new grass even to the emptiest biomes. If they continue to fill the world's emptiness, then very soon we will see even more new bushes for specific biomes. This means there will be enough sources for seeds.
Here are the crops I envision dropping from these bushes:
1. Dry grass == Millet (A short plant with a panicle covered in small grains)
2. Bush == Barley (A classic grain with long ears and characteristic awns)
3. Fern == Buckwheat (A short plant with pinkish inflorescences and dark grains)
