Another way to get gunpowder

I'm always dying to creepers trying to get gun powder. I understand there are farms to help with that but I think there should be another way. because it is terrifying in hardcore and the fear of losing your stuff or world so I think like an ore that can help make gunpowder like sulfur plus charcoal?

    adding sulfur needs other justification, perhaps having incendiary properties or helping craft other things
    saltpetre could be gotten from glow lychen as an in-universe oxidiser
