How to grow amythest buds or clusters

Thinking of amethyst geodes makes me think of how we can make our own crystals, and what we could do is have a string in water, and you throw/use a sort of crystal (right now sugar and amethyst are the only crystals in the game, but maybe salt could be added to the game, however that is a different suggestion) maybe if you use sugar on the string it gives something like rock candy (which you might be able to dye, having a total of 16 colored variations), but if you use a either a singular amethyst shard or amethyst bud of any state on it, it would start to grow more amethyst, making amethyst a more renewable resource in the game,
