I really think amethyst is a great block, though I have heard some in the technical community call it hard to work with, and as someone who is semi into that side of the game, I get it. But I also am going to respect the idea of living near a geode, and having them act like spawners, having the farmable blocks be immovable. I propose that somewhere around the middle of the geode, a singular block that is hard to break like obsidian, called the "Crystallizer" or something, would generate. It would slowly overtime turn up to ~10 nearby amethyst blocks into budding amethyst blocks. This would allow you to customize the budding amethyst placement to a degree, while the amethyst would still only grow near the geode location, and be immovable. I for one, decided to set up my home around a geode in a cave, and I would like to build inside the geode, but I would like to get more crystals. I can't really do both, but if I could choose where the budding amethyst was, then I could make sure I don't obstruct it. This would also help farms for amethyst. Maybe amethyst blocks would also not be able to be converted if there were directly adjacent budding amethyst blocks, so it would still be scattered a bit, but not nearly as much as it is now.
Also if calcite was craftable with amethyst that'd be neat too, but that's not what I'm here to suggest.
