When a player places a block within a construction site, it is automatically replaced with a decorative variant based on the closest stonecutter. In other words, the block variant applied is determined by the selected crafting recipe from the nearest stonecutter block present in the area. A redstone power could be used to increase/decrease its range, allowing for complex use of redstone to build easier: Random / pseudorandom blocks placement trough crafting, "block switching" by using a target block, and possibly many other uses like in mini-games, pranks etc.
How it would work: once placed, players could select a "generic decorative crafting" for blocks, like full blocks, stairs, slabs and walls, and/or "generic variants crafting" for blocks like None (don't make variants), Cobbled, Polished, Polished-bricks, Chiseled and tiles.
Once it is powered by redstone, it will start controlling player's block placement around a specific area, and if that area have two active "streaming" stonecutters, the one closest to the player would be prioritized.
This idea could improve both inventory management and building, and although this is a specially complex behaviour, I believe this feature is worth investing for the game.
