Hi Minecraft PG/SPM/BG teams,
This topic is deeply personal. I’m a parent to a 10-year-old daughter diagnosed with autism at age two, and I’m grateful to work at Microsoft, where her therapy and developmental pediatric care are fully covered—support that has been life-changing for our family.
Recently, a public incident where my daughter became severely overstimulated highlighted how vulnerable these situations can be outside the safety of home. While no one was hurt, it prompted reflection on prevention and awareness.
This led me to explore ways to reduce overstimulation in both physical and digital spaces. I considered discreet awareness tools (e.g., cards or shirts explaining triggers) and reevaluated the digital content my daughter consumes. Some Roblox games and YouTube videos may contribute to dysregulation, so I’ve transitioned her to Minecraft and plan to subscribe to Realms. An article about a father creating a safe Minecraft server for children with special needs sparked a larger idea: could we create a safe, moderated Minecraft environment for children on the autism spectrum—balancing safety with meaningful social interaction?
I’ve begun conversations with autism organizations, local therapy groups, my daughter’s developmental pediatrician, and volunteer attorneys to shape this as a transparent, non-profit initiative. My goal isn’t profit—it’s impact: helping create a safer future for my daughter and the broader autism community.
