Flooded caves below Y-20 are currently low risk compared to dry caves or the Deep Dark. No hostile mobs spawn underwater, and players can mine safely using simple mechanics like doors or water breathing. This makes deep flooded caves feel underdeveloped and too safe for their depth.
I propose a rare deep biome called the “Abyssal Cave” generating from Y-20 to bedrock. These would be massive submerged chambers with narrow tunnels, darker biome-tinted water, and extremely low light levels to create tension similar to the Deep Dark- that is my reference.
A new hostile mob, the Abyssal Stalker, would spawn here. It is fully aquatic, It relies purely on sight with a glowing forward-facing light cone, like a deep sea anglerfish. When a player enters the light, it lunges and attacks. It can break weaker blocks like glass or wood if they are inside its light and a Mob is behind.
Submerged Outposts would generate inside these caves. Built from deepslate, tuff, and new andesite/diorite brick variants, they would feature glass corridors overlooking the abyss, partial damage, loot and sculk growth, including shriekers/sensors, like trial chambers.
Inside, a second mob called the Vein Watcher spawns. It detects players through special sculk eye veins placed in corridors. If spotted, it aggressively hunts the player. If no Watcher is present, the eye veins close until another spawns.
This would add atmosphere, and meaningful danger to deep flooded caves, with an opportunity for new items.
