Smelter for old armor and tools

After visiting the end and finding tons of iron armor and swords I felt almost guilty just getting rid of them but I also didn't want to store them because it's annoying having something I won't use. What if we had smelters? You put in a chestplate or old sword and get back a couple of ingots depending on what you smelted? Just hate the thought of throwing away six sets of iron armor when I could smelt them and reuse the iron :)
