The "platform" / "multiplayer restriction" variable usable on resource packs, behavior packs and skin packs is shown overreaching on some platforms for over a year (see MCPE-189600), it is also bad for players, and recently the disconnection screen (which currently can only be obtained when accepting invites) was made more blunt, while there's no mention of it in any of Minecraft sites, and I think the platform restriction variable needs to be removed entirely rather than continue support of which it harms more players. The variable disallows multiplayer depending which platform players have activated the add-on on.
Reasons why the platform restriction needs to be removed:
- It's not used on every Marketplace contents
- It's not used on every community packs from third-party sites
- It is bad for players (end users)
- It is not mentioned in Minecraft Help
- Microsoft docs did not state what it is.
- It affects the Super Mario Mash-up Pack on the Nintendo Switch via MCPE-235961 and MCPE-189600
- It also affects platforms that don’t use it, via MCPE-236099 and MCPE-236202
