Shingles (Roofing)

I was looking the other day through the list of stairs and noticed there are no bright red, lime, green (oxidized copper is more cyan-ish), light blue, blue, dark blue, purple stairs to make roofs, especially the dark blue is kind of missing.
My suggestion is the ability to make shingles, out of terracotta, wood and stone. They would come in stairs, slabs, blocks form, all would have rotation so they could be aligned with the roof you are trying to build. Now they wouldn't be only esthetic, but also functional, as no mobs could spawn on top of them (including full blocks and upper slabs), it be nice to make custom shaped roofs without worrying about mob spawning. Also, if the stone and wood shingles would have a more universal texture, they could be used as floors or for paths that don't have to be lit up to prevent mob spawning.
This is a big big addition and there would be a lot of blocks added, so in order not to add a ton of recipes to the crafting book further, maybe you can make all these in the stone cutter only.
It pains me having to use string on roofs just to stop monsters to stop spawning on my roofs, I am sure this addition has a lot of potential.
Extra note: Maybe make them not stick to honey and slime blocks, that way people have more building blocks to use when making slime and honey block machines.
It be nice if the wood roofs would be shakes (roughly cut wooden tiles), while stone and terracotta could be shingles (same sized pieces, very organized).
