I hope the item and food system can be more data-driven to empower data pack creators.
-
New Food Types: Allow the creation of custom food items with specific types (like "Fruit Platter", "Stir-fry", "Soup") through data packs. These types should define unique eating animations/sounds and can be referenced as independent objects.
-
Generic "Ingredient" Items: Add a set of common, non-functional items (e.g., "Steel Ingot", "Tomato", "Flour", "Parrot Egg") as "item interfaces." Data packs can use these base items and assign custom behaviors (like crafting ingredients or special interactions) without needing new texture IDs.
-
"Throwable" Item Tag: Introduce a universal "throwable" tag or component. Any item with this tag can be thrown by the player (like a snowball or egg), with its on-hit effect and entity model definable in the data pack.
