Hiding the beacon beam

Sometimes you don't want the beacon's beam to be visible, but you still want it to work.
 
My suggestion:
If you install tinted glass somewhere above the beacon, the beacon won't turn off. The beacon's beam will be directed toward the tinted glass block. Above that, the beam will disappear.
