Hello! I would like to propose the addition of a Sawmill (or "Woodcutter") to Minecraft, functioning similarly to how the Stonecutter works for stone-based blocks.
Why this would be a great addition:
-
Consistency: Since we already have a Stonecutter for masonry, it feels natural to have a dedicated workstation for woodworking.
-
Efficiency: It would allow players to craft items like stairs, fences, and trapdoors directly from logs or planks, saving time and simplifying the crafting process.
-
Precision: Just like the Stonecutter, the Sawmill could offer a 1:1 ratio for stairs (instead of the 6 blocks for 4 stairs recipe), making large wooden builds more resource-efficient.
-
Decorative Potential: A Sawmill block would add great aesthetic value to workshops, lumberyards, and village builds.
How it would work: The interface would display all possible wooden derivatives for the material placed in the input slot (e.g., placing an Oak Log would show options for Oak Planks, Stairs, Slabs, Fences, Gates, Buttons, and Signs).
This addition would greatly improve the "Quality of Life" for builders while keeping the game's mechanics cohesive. Thank you for considering this idea!
