The debug stick helps when building in creative to get blocks to take the form you want. Whether its that annoying stair that doesnt want to allign properly, or misplaced block that can quickly be changed. The debug stick really helps. And an item like it should exist in survival too.
I mainly got back to this idea after seeing Jeb talk about how vertical slabs mainly didnt get added due to a UI issue it could create. I think this point is very valid, and UI is important. But thats why I think adding in a wrench could help. If the wrench is in your offhand, it will increase your building range like the crab item couldve potentially done. right-clicking with the item in your offhand still lets you build normally.
But when you have the item in your main hand, you can use the increased range to now also change blocks. Turn a half slab into a vertical slab, change the state of stairs, change the texture of a block (A wood log would show the inside facing you, instead of the bark side after use). It could even rust up a copper block so you dont have to wait for it to oxidize.
The item could either be made by introducing the crab, and using the crab claw to create a wrench. Or by using already existing items. I personally would prefer it doesnt have any durability, but I think it would make it a bit too good. So either enchanting (which can also increase the range) or different levels (iron, diamond, netherite) could work.
I hope you will consider this idea, as it will help a lot!
