Books are a classic in Minecraft, but what if the current books had more uses? This list explains different redstone, decorative, and mechanical uses for books.
1. Make books dyable. If you combine a dye with a book on your crafting table, the leather outside would change colors to fit the dye. This color change would effect how the book appears on a chiseled bookshelf but not on a regular one. Additionally, this ties into my next idea,
2. Placeable books. You would be able to place books anywhere you want with a support block underneath it. Any dyed books will appear as such when placed. You can place them in a stack or in a row depending on the player's orientation.
3. Make books have more redstone uses. For example, observers will be able to detect when a placed book is removed from a stack or row, and can release a redstone signal, just like those secret library hideouts in movies. Additionally, the more pages or words you write inside of a book and quill, the "heavier" it would be, and would effect weighted pressure plates differently than normal items, releasing a different redstone output.
4. Last but not least, what if books could be locked? If you have a books and quill or published book, you would be able to place it in a crafting table and surround the book with chains, which prevents it from being opened or edited by anyone, including you. This texture difference will be carried over to placed books or chiseled ones. Only shears can removed the chains.
