I really enjoy Minecraft and I think it’s one of the best games ever made. However, I feel like the current pricing and online requirements make it harder for younger players to enjoy the game with friends.
I understand charging for online play in general, but many popular games like Fortnite allow free online play on consoles because they are free-to-play. Minecraft is relatively low cost, but for kids and teens who don’t have access to subscriptions like PlayStation Plus, Xbox Game Pass Core, or Nintendo Switch Online, this still creates a barrier.
I think Minecraft would reach an even larger audience if it became free-to-play, especially Bedrock Edition. Players who enjoy the game could then choose to spend money on optional content like:
Realms and Realms Plus
Skins, texture packs, and add-ons
Marketplace content
This model has already been proven successful in other games and would allow more people to play together while still supporting Minecraft financially.
Minecraft is a social game, and making it more accessible would help grow the community even more, especially for younger players who love the game but can’t currently play online with friends.
