My nickname is Foxgreat, and I’m writing to suggest a new feature for axolotls in Minecraft that draws inspiration from the fascinating biology of real-world axolotls.
According to the Axolotl article on Wikipedia, real axolotls (Ambystoma mexicanum) exhibit a condition known as neoteny — they “mature into the terrestrial adult form without undergoing metamorphosis; the adults remain fully aquatic with obvious external gills” and retain features that in most salamanders are typical of juveniles. In fact, they can be difficult to distinguish from the larval stage of other salamanders because they keep their larval traits even when sexually mature.
This unique biology makes real axolotls look perpetually “baby-like,” with their feathery external gills and compact body shape. I think this feature has a lot of charm and could be used as the basis for future update in Minecraft. This would give players a fun, lifelike progression and deepen the ecological feel of axolotl interactions in the game.
I believe that adding a juvenile would delight players who love both Minecraft’s creativity and the real world’s natural wonders. It’s also a great way to reflect the real biology of axolotls while making the in-game species even more appealing and memorable. We already have growing mechanic but we can use it to grow back with axolotls too!
Thank you for considering this suggestion.
