Hi Mojang team,
I had an idea I wanted to share that I think could fit really well into vanilla Minecraft.
Right now, lighting farms (especially underground or decorative ones) usually means placing torches, lanterns, or glowstone around, which works but can sometimes look cluttered. I was wondering if there could be a block that naturally emits light and can also be planted on.
The idea is a glowing block that works like dirt or sand, depending on the crop, but provides enough light for plants to grow on its own. Crops like wheat, carrots, potatoes, sugarcane, and cactus could all be placed directly on it. This would make it possible to build clean-looking farms, greenhouses, or underground growing areas without extra light sources everywhere.
I think this would fit Minecraft’s style because it doesn’t replace existing mechanics, it just adds another option for building and creativity. It could be balanced by making it a later-game block to craft, maybe using glowstone, frog lights, amethyst, or something similar. It wouldn’t need to be as bright as glowstone either, just enough to support crop growth.
Visually, I imagine it having a subtle glow and a natural-looking texture so it blends into farms instead of standing out too much. Even a slight visual change when a crop is planted on it could be a nice touch.
Thanks for reading and for continuing to make such an amazing game. Even if this idea never gets added, I appreciate the work you all do.
Plz n thx,
EternalKatze
