I suggest adding Blackberries to the game. These bushes would provide a new food source but also act as a natural barrier, similar to sweet berries but with unique properties.
Key Features:
Habitat: Blackberries grow in Birch Forests, Mixed Forests, Taiga, and Meadow biomes. They often form dense patches on the edges of forests and mountain slopes.
The Thorn Mechanic: Just like in real life, blackberry bushes have sharp thorns. Walking through them deals small damage to players and mobs, and also slows them down. This makes them perfect for creating natural fences around your base.
Growth: The bushes are 1 block high but can spread to adjacent blocks, creating thick brambles.
Harvesting: Right-clicking a mature bush yields 1-3 Blackberries.
Food Properties: * Restores 2 hunger points (1 full drumstick).
Can be used to bake a Blackberry Pie (restores high hunger and saturation).
Dye: Can be crafted into Purple or Black Dye.
Why it belongs in Minecraft:
It adds more challenge to forest exploration and gives players a new tool for defense. The interaction between "soft" Bilberries and "thorny" Blackberries would make the forest floor feel much more alive and realistic.
