I suggest updating the Wolf to make it feel like a true wild predator. The current wolf is too passive; a more realistic approach would improve the atmosphere of the Taiga and Forest biomes.
1. Skittish Nature:
Wild wolves should be wary of humans. They should naturally avoid players and villagers, keeping a distance of 10-15 blocks unless they are provoked or extremely hungry. This makes finding and taming them a real challenge.
2. Pack Mechanics:
Wolves should almost always spawn and travel in packs of 4 to 8.
A lone wolf is shy, but a pack becomes brave and aggressive at night or when hunting.
They should have a "Pack Leader" (Alpha) which is slightly larger. If the Alpha is defeated, the rest of the pack might scatter.
3. Hunting Behavior:
Instead of just attacking sheep, wolf packs should use coordinated tactics to hunt Deer, Rabbits, and even Cows. You can hear them howling at night to locate other pack members, which adds a beautiful but eerie soundscape to the forest.
4. Taming Change:
Since they are shy, you cannot just run up to them. Players should have to leave meat on the ground and move away, or sneak very slowly to gain their trust before they can be tamed with bones.
5. Defensive Instinct:
Tamed wolves should retain their "wild" side, becoming more protective and growling when hostile mobs or unknown players are nearby.
