Bedrock and Java Cross Play?

Will there be an update in the future where cross-play is allowed for Bedrock and Java players? I have a couple friends who play Java while I play Bedrock and as far as I know you can use plug-ins to unofficially allow cross-play. But even then, it doesn’t allow cross-play for Realms. I hope that in the future there could be a feature where not only is cross-play allowed for Java and Bedrock, but also a compatibility feature for Bedrock players to play Java only add-ons and other marketplace features as well as java-only mods.
